Tuesday, July 24, 2001Time flies. This is the first live entry since June 8: I should fill in some of the meantime with reconstruction of events. Movie: The Golden Bowl. A- Movie: Bridget Jones' Diary. B+ Movie: Startup.Com. Rave reviews. Hasn't made it to Wichita. But, with my new business in the wings, I figure this is the one movie I have to check out. What do I learn? Mostly, not to feel like my business needs a company cheer. The people are not far from ones I know, nor is the business concept, but the degree of failure barely sinks in. The camera may capture the emotions, but the facts take some digging. For instance, the amount of money they burn through is mostly something you have to add up from the periodic headcount stats. And the technical details are thin: something about parking tickets. So no, I didn't learn much. But for what it is -- a slice of cinema verite, it's intriguing enough. B+ After movie, we lunch at Wolfgang Puck's. I wouldn't have thought to go there, but we were already parked. Seemed like the time to order pizza. It's OK. For dinner, we go to a Kosher Yemeni cafe, Magic Carpet, pretty good: great eggplant platter, very good Moroccan chicken dish, something vaguely resembling lamajeune.
